NFL QB Breakdown: Eckel examines the AFC East

This series will be a division by division look at the situation for the most important position in the game — today we start with the AFC East

Mark Eckel

There has never been a NFL offseason quite like this one when it comes to quarterbacks. Three Super Bowl winning QBs, another who has gotten to a Super Bowl and a No. 1 overall pick could all be on the move. Here is a division by division look at the situation for the most important position in the game.

AFC East

Buffalo Bills: The Bills, who by the way have done pretty well thus far in the offseason, are sold on their 2018 first-round pick Josh Allen and have surrounded him with some good talent (Stefon Diggs the latest weapon). They could certainly do better than Matt Barkley as a back-up and may look to improve there.

Miami Dolphins: Ryan Fitzpatrick will turn 50, or 60, or somewhere around there this season, but still showed he could play a little bit last year. He could serve another year as the starter, while the Dolphins groom the QB they take with their first of three first-round draft picks. It’s most likely going to be Tua Tagovailoa, but the team could wait and perhaps grab Jordan Love later in the first round.

New England Patriots: For the first time in what seems like forever the Pats won’t have Tom Brady under center. So who takes over for one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game? Nick Foles, who Jacksonville is looking to move, would appear to be a good fit in the Pats offense. There are reports they like current Bengals QB Andy Dalton as well. Call me crazy (I’ve been called a lot worse), but what if Andrew Luck decides to un-retire and sign with New England? Hey, he followed Peyton Manning, why not follow Brady, too?

New York Jets: For better or worse Sam Darnold is the future of the franchise. And there is a chance a now-healthy Trevor Siemian returns as his backup.
