We have another great Friday Night College Football game lined up this week, with Boise State taking on San Diego State. This Mountain West matchup could be a good one, as San Diego State has been showing more and more with each game. They could give the Broncos a scare in Boise this Friday! Either way, you’ll want to tune into this matchup on November 1st at 5:00 PM PT.
Boise State has been the surprise team in college football this year. With only one loss to the number-one-ranked Oregon Ducks, this team is legit. They even took the Ducks down to the wire so Oregon could kick a game-winning field goal and take the game home. This Boise State team deserves to be among the top teams in the country. Sitting at 15, they could be ranked even higher. That is mainly due to their superstar-in-the-making running back, Ashton Jeanty.
He is on a historic pace this year, and if you can watch this man, I highly recommend you do! He is a wrecking ball through the line and has been rushing for over 200 yards almost every game. He is truly a breakout player in this class, and we expect to follow his career to the NFL next year. Beyond Jeanty, this Boise State team is highly competitive on both sides. Though the defense tends to give up a fair number of points, they do enough to keep the game in control for the most part.
On the other side of the field, we have San Diego State. Despite their rough start, they have become a team that can challenge Boise State. Coming into this matchup with a 3-4 record, their weekly improvement has been encouraging. Starting off the year barely able to score they are now keeping up with ranked teams like Washington State. This is mainly due to the improvements behind the line, with Danny O’Neil, the freshman QB out of Indianapolis, getting more comfortable in the San Diego system. He’s been flanked by RB senior running back Marquez Cooper, who soaked up a fair share of the rushing snaps. Still, the talent disparity between these two teams might be apparent, with the books having little faith in the Aztecs. This San Diego may surprise us, even if they end up with the L in this game!
This game will likely be one side, as the Broncos keep pushing to earn a late playoff seat. We expect to see the Broncos come out in full force, playing their first home since October 5th. We'd stay away from the money line, with the lines currently sitting heavily in the Broncos' favor. It’s sitting at nearly -2000 at the moment, which, at that rate, you might as well just keep your money in your wallet. The spread line is a bit more interesting. At -23.5 for the Broncos, this could be a much closer line.
Boise State has let teams run up the score behind them. Even Hawaii and Washington State managed to stay under that spread amount versus the Broncos. With the Aztecs offense looking serviceable the last few weeks, we’d lean toward the San Diego State spread this week.
In terms of the total points line, we’d say take the over on it all day. Neither team has a stalwart defense, and with Boise State’s ability to rack up huge numbers on offense, this game will likely see the 60s in total points scored!
