In the first year of the 12-team College Football Playoff, we have more questions than answers.
Texas has looked like the best team in the country, but would likely be a slight underdog to Georgia. Ohio State has looked great, but can they finally beat Michigan? 6 of the top 7 teams in the AP Top 25 are in the SEC, who comes out of that conference?
With so many teams looking great through the first 3 weeks, it should come as no surprise that we don't have a clear cut leader to win the Heisman Trophy. Cam Ward is the favorite, but is only slightly ahead of Jalen Milroe, Jaxson Dart, Nico Iamaleava, and Dillon Gabriel.
Luckily, there is plenty of football ahead of us, and this will all get settled on the field. Here are the current Heisman Trophy odds after 3 weeks of play:
Cam Ward (Miami FL): +550
Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss): +700
Jalen Milroe (Alabama): +700
Nico Iamaleava (Tennessee): +850
Dillon Gabriel (Oregon): +900
Carson Beck (Georgia): +1200
Will Howard (Ohio State): +2000
Ashton Jeanty (Boise State): +2000
Arch Manning (Texas): +2000
Quinn Ewers (Texas): +2000
Miller Moss (USC): +2000
Travis Hunter (Colorado): +3500
Avery Johnson (Kansas State): +4000
Riley Leonard (Notre Dame): +4000
Drew Allar (Penn State): +4000
Cam Ward and Miami should sail into the College Football Playoff. They have 1 ranked opponent on the schedule, an October 19 meeting with Lousiville. If Ward beats up on this weak ACC schedule, will earn enough votes to beat out whoever navigates the gauntlet that is the SEC and Big 10 this season? We're betting not.
It does not help Ewers' case that Manning has looked as good (if not better) when he's been on the field, but that's exactly why we love Ewers' odds here. It's not about him. It's about his offensive line. It's about Steve Sarkisian.
Texas looks like the best team in the country. Their balanced, well coached, and have the best offensive line in college football. Most weeks, if not every week, Ewers will have time to sit in the pocket and allow Isaiah Bond, Ryan Wingo, Gunnar Helm, and company to work open.
There is plenty of football left to play, but we like Texas' chances of making the CFP, and Ewers' chances of taking home the Heisman.
Cam Rising has attempted 29 passes in 2 games and has 7 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. He's also added 46 yards on the ground, and has Utah looking like the best team in the Big 12.
What if the Utes run the table this season? What if this hot start for Rising continues through Big 12 play?
He's already missed a game, which will hurt his final numbers, but Rising is going to put up ridiculous stats this season and could catch a bunch of the SEC QBs who will have to play some brutal stretches this season. We'll take a shot with the 25 year old senior, and hope he puts on a show and cashes at +12000 odds.
