AAC college football: Geier picks UCF at Cincinnati, Tulane at Army, USF at UConn

The first game is 8 pm EDT Friday, the other games are Saturday.

Ben Geier

18 UCF @ Cincinnati (+3.5), 8 pm EDT on ESPN (Friday)

The Knights will face their second road test of the season as they take on the Cincinnati Bearcats. Last season, the Knights routed the Bearcats on College Gameday by a score of 38-13. However, with the Bearcats on their home turf and the Knights without some of their key playmakers. Cincy has the potential to take down a perennial powerhouse. Both teams have fared well ATS as they're a combined 6-3-0. I'm taking the over/under as the Knights failed to cover the spread last time on the road. Also, I expect freshman quarterback Dillion Gabriel to face some adversity as this is a seasoned Bearcats defense (20 PPG).

Over: 60.5

Tulane @ Army (+3), 12 pm EDT on CBSSN (Saturday)

Army and Tulane could be considered mirror images of one another. The Green Wave pulled off an impressive victory against Houston and are looking to build upon their fast start. However, the most surprising aspect of the Green Wave is their defense. They've given up only 18 PPG and managed to keep it competitive with Auburn of the SEC. Overall, this game will likely come down to the wire as it did in their previous outing. The Black Knights only loss was against Michigan in 2OT but they have won their past two games. I'm taking the underdog with Army as they'll be at home this time around. There’s very little separating these teams.

Pick: Army (+3)

USF @ UConn, 12 pm EDT on TBD (Saturday)

UConn's Randy Edsall and USF's Charlie Strong are likely fighting to keep their jobs come Saturday. Neither coach has lived up to expectations with Edsall failing to recapture the magic and Strong losing nine of his last ten games. I wouldn't be shocked to see either coach with a new team in the offseason. However, the game itself remains a mystery as each team ranks towards the bottom on offense and defense. I'm taking the Huskies to cover for three reasons.

1. They're home this week.

2. Junior Kevin Mensah (RB) is an underrated back who has carried the Huskies on offense (328 RUSH YARDS & 2 TDS).

3. USF hasn't scored over 20 PPG against an FBS opponent this season.

Pick: UConn (+11)
