Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Clemson Tigers, 7 pm Eastern

The Pick: Wake Forest -160, bet $40 to win $25; Wake Forest -3 (-110), bet $22 to win $20

If you’re following ESPN’s “Bracketology,” you’ll notice that for the ACC teams making the tournament, there’s Duke (currently a #3 seed) and there’s everyone else. All the other teams are listed as either a #9 on #10 seed. Teams like Wake Forest have an opportunity over the next two weeks to improve their seeding, and it’s done in two ways. First, winning games they can win in the regular season, like tonight’s game against a Clemson team that’s lost six straight. Second, getting the #2 or #3 seed in the ACC Tournament, and thus staying out of Duke’s side of the bracket and increasing the chance of playing in the ACC Tournament Final. Those incentives should push Wake Forest to a win tonight, even if it’s at Clemson. The Demon Deacons are 18-1 as a favorite this season and 6-2-1 against the spread on the road, but right now they’re in fifth place in the ACC - that would put them on Duke’s side. They don’t want that. They’re only one game out of the fourth spot, and 1.5 games out of the second spot - plenty of incentive for a good team to put it all out there against the Tigers tonight.

Syracuse Orangemen at Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 7 pm Eastern

The Pick: Notre Dame -210, bet $26.25 to win $12.50

This spread opened at -3 and then moved from -4.5 to -5 points over the last few hours, which was enough to scare me off it and into making a smaller play on Notre Dame simply winning outright. After losing on Saturday to a very-solid Wake team (see above), the Fighting Irish are still just one game behind Duke for first place in the ACC, but like I’ve mentioned (er, see above), are currently projected to be only a #9 seed in the NCAA Tourney. They need to keep winning. But they’re only 14-13 against the spread, and a mere 6-6 ATS at home, while the Orangemen’s up-and-down season has been up lately at 6-1 in their last seven (5-2 ATS). It’s too little, too late for Syracuse, but it does mean they’re not going to lay down tonight.

Boston College Golden Eagles at N.C. State Wolfpack, 7 pm Eastern

The Pick: Parlay Wake Forest w/Notre Dame w/Boston College +6 +357, bet $7.50 to win $26.85

I’ll make a small three-team value parlay on Wake Forest, Notre Dame, and a Boston College team to cover. Boston College is not a good team, is on the road, but has refused to lay down all year. Both the Golden Eagles and N.C. State are coming off wins, brief blips of positivity in what’s been terrible seasons for both teams. Both squads will be looking for more brief blips, so tonight should be a tough battle. I’ll take the points and pair it with two teams who should win outright for a potential nice taste.
