In Ivy League NCAAB action, Eckel picks Columbia vs Princeton and evaluates the high line

Columbia at Princeton (-11), 7 p.m.

Princeton has pretty much sealed itself as the third-place team and No. 3 seed in next weekend’s Ivy League Tournament.

Still, piling on a few more wins against the two New York schools, who sit last and next-to-last in the league, this weekend won’t hurt.

Friday night the Tigers (13-12, 8-4) host Columbia (6-22, 1-11), who have been epically bad this season. The Lions won their league opener against Cornell and haven’t won since. That’s 11 straight losses if you’re counting. There must be days when head coach Jim Engles wonders why he ever left NJIT.

Princeton has basically been a .500 team most of the season and has split its last eight games over the past four weekends. This weekend they should be able to sweep especially at Jadwin.

An 11-point line is a bit high for a Princeton team that has had trouble putting teams away. The Tigers only beat the Lions, 81-74, in the City. But Columbia is that bad.

The Pick: Freshman guard Jaelin Llewellyn goes off with a big night and the Tigers have this game well in hand early in the second half.
