There are four games on tap in the ACC Tuesday night, but we’re only going to recommend one of them:
FLORIDA STATE (+ 2.5) at SYRACUSE, 8 p.m.
Pick: Syracuse (- 2.5)
Syracuse (16-6), after two roads win at Boston College and Pitt, gets back to the Carrier Dome where it is 11-3 this season.
As it usually does right around this time of the year the Orange is playing better. After an up and down start to the season, Syracuse has won five of its last six games and has covered the spread in all five of those wins as well.
Florida State (16-5) is on a three-game winning streak but two of those wins were at home. The Seminoles have lost three of their last four road games and are 1-4 against the spread on the road this year. And better, or worse depending on your point of view, they are 4-12 against the spread in their last 16 ACC games.
PITTSBURGH (-2.5) at WAKE FOREST, 7 p.m.
Pick: None
If you really have to bet this one, take the favorite, because in no way, no how, would I ever say bet Wake Forest (8-13) in a conference game.
But it’s really hard to put money on Pitt (12-10), who is a winless 0-6 on the road this season and has lost five straight all by double figures.
BOSTON COLLEGE (+24) at DUKE, 7 p.m.
Pick: None
I was really tempted to take BC (11-9) and the points with the thought (and hope) that Duke (19-2) will be looking past the Eagles to a showdown with Virginia on Saturday.
And there is also the fact that Boston College is 5-0 against the spread on the road this season.
Then I thought do I really want to bet against Duke at Cameron?
Hence, the no bet.
NORTH CAROLINA STATE (+ 11) at NORTH CAROLINA, 8 p.m.
Pick: None
Since we started this venture, we’ve gotten three ACC games wrong (and 11 right) and all three involved the Wolpack.
So we’re just going to stay away from them for a bit.
