Now, it might seem like a stretch to take a team that is 0-3 to start the season over the Heat. Though, the Detroit record is already deceiving. This year, they have been much better as a team, especially Cade Cunningham. Cunningham has been on fire, putting up huge numbers against elite competition!
He’s averaging 27 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists a game against teams like the Celtics, Cavs, and Pacers, three of the top teams in the East. The best part is that the Pistons have kept most of their games close. Now, facing a Maimi team that could be fading, we love the plus money on this line for the Pistons. If Cade can put up some numbers again, we could see him stealing this game in Miami!
What are the books doing giving Cleveland plus money on this bet? They have been great this early season, as the rumors surrounding this team have finally dried up. They seem locked in and focused behind Donovan Mitchell, who has been fantastic in these first few games. We watched him have an excellent game on Saturday, dropping 30 on the Wizards. This Cavs team feels focused and dangerous for a team like the Knicks.
The Knicks have seen a few growing pains early this year. Losing their opener against the Celtics, this core looks like they’ll need some time to adjust to each other. They did stomp the Pacers in their last game on Friday, plus they’ll have home court and rest advantage. We think the Cavs have the length and size to challenge the Knicks. With Cleveland's potential to have the best player on the floor in Mitchell, we still feel confident they will take this game in MSG!
We’re betting on lightning striking twice in this matchup, with the Spurs pulling out a three-point victory over Houston on Saturday. They managed to slow down Houston's scoring torrent, holding them to just 31% from 3 and 41% from the field. With the Spurs offense much less dependent on the three-pointer, we could see them win two in a row.
Though, if Houston can find their shot, and keep the ball out of the paint, they could take this one easily. Considering how close this first matchup was, and how poorly Houston shot, it wouldn't be shocking at all for them to win this game. We just like the plus odds on the Spurs too much to pass it up!
This is by far the most out of their selection. Portland has been projected as one of the worst teams in the league. They’ve already been blown out by nearly 40 points this year, but still, they can steal a game against the Kings. The Kings have struggled in their first two games, losing by 2 to the Timberwolves and 4 to the Lakers. It’s not like Portland is on the same level as either of those teams, but Portland shares one strength with both teams: size. Portland is among the tallest teams in the league, with a massive starting lineup averaging 6’7.
This size already gave them trouble in the preseason when Portland beat the Kings by 20. If Portland can manage to shoot the ball semi-well, they have a chance to steal this one. Clingan, in particular, gave Sabonis tons of issues in the post. Sabonis played 30 minutes, only getting 9 points and 8 rebounds, compared to Clingan, getting 10 points and 10 rebounds in just 18 minutes. The ability of Portland to toss size at teams and a deep center rotation could impact the King's offense heavily. Overall, this is a long-shot bet; the line is currently sitting at +500 on DraftKings, so the books have no confidence. However, at those odds, it’s worth a couple of bucks.
We’re focusing on some big favorites in this one. The Grizzlies and Celtics look solid; with the return of JJJ for Memphis, their entire system looks great. The Celtics have been dominant, continuing their title-winning mentality into the new season. These games are a lock for use as the Celtics take on the Bucks, who have struggled early this year, and the Grizzlies take on the Bulls. The Nuggets, on the other hand, haven’t been great. They have lost their first two, one against OKC, which looks poised to take the #1 spot in the West this year, and the other against the Clippers. Now, on the road, they’ll be taking on the Raptors. We like this matchup for Denver, though, as the Raptors might not be able to punish them with shooting as much as the first two teams did. This is where the Nuggets will pick up their first win!
