Atlanta Hawks at Cleveland Cavaliers, 7:30 pm Eastern
The Pick: Cleveland +2.5 (-110), bet $11 to win $10
I’m gonna go with the home underdog in this one. I think Cleveland showed against Brooklyn that they’re not going to lay down and die just because they’re dealing with injuries. Jarrett Allen has been upgraded to questionable, and I believe he’ll play. The Cavaliers are 25-16 at home (23-17-1 against the spread), and while I think Atlanta comes into the game off a big win against Charlotte, their frontcourt is going to have its hands full with Evan Mobley and (hopefully) Allen. Atlanta won this season’s series 3-0 against the Cavs, but I think that ends tonight. Cleveland’s been on a tough road but they’ve still got fight, and a home dog is a home dog…
New Orleans Pelicans at Los Angeles Clippers, 10 pm Eastern
The Pick: Los Angeles -175, bet $26.25 to win $15
The buzz over the past day or so has been a sighting of injured Pelican Zion Williamson throwing down 360-degree dunks. Does that mean he’s returning against Los Angeles tonight? Of course not. Then why are we even talking about it? I think the marveling at Williamson’s appearance on a basketball court, no matter how inconsequential, is actually a distraction New Orleans doesn’t need right now. Los Angeles is playing at home in a game they know they could’ve avoided had they hit, uh, one or two shots in the last six minutes against Minnesota on Tuesday night. Less than two weeks ago, the Clips pasted the Pelicans by 19 in the same gym they’re playing them in tonight. But sure, Zion Williamson decided to throw down a dunk or two. Los Angeles may have its Duke star, Luke Kennard, back for this game, but even without him, the Clippers have too much shooting and too much Paul George.
