MLB Betting Preview: Live Odds, 2 Player Props, and Our Best Bet for Tuesday, July 23

Mike Noblin

Monday was a rough night for the good guys, as our MLB player props ended up with a 1-2 mark. Hunter Greene got the job for us against an Atlanta Braves offense that continues to ride the struggle bus.

As for our two losses, one was ugly and one was by the dreaded hook. Tanner Houck looked terrible against the Rockies, as he only struck out two in six innings of work. The hook loss was on Chicago White Sox hurler Erick Fedde, who found a way to K five Rangers hitters to bust our Under 4.5 play.

Let's shake it off and get back to winning! Get in on Tuesday's MLB action by diving into our betting preview. You'll find live odds, 2 player props, and our best bet for July 23.

Lance Lynn Over 4.5 Ks (-135)

STL at PIT - 6:40 PM EDT

I don't get why this line so low! Sure, Lynn ain't what he used to be and he's had issues with blowup innings this season. That being said, the veteran righty still has a career K-rate of 31.1% against this Pirates lineup.

Lynn has especially owned Pittsburgh outfielder Andrew McCutchen, whom he has struck out 21 times in just 58 plate appearances. Lynn will also have some extra motivation in this games since he'll be facing off against hotshot rookie Paul Skenes.

Pittsburgh has been hitting the ball better lately, but this lineup still struggles to put the ball in play. They currently have the 6th highest K-rate in MLB against righties. We'll play Big Boy Lance to get at least 5 Ks tonight in the Steel City.

Cooper Criswell Over 4.5 Ks (+136)

BOS at COL - 8:40 PM EDT

Wow! I get that Criswell isn't a prolific strikeout guy, but this is a ton of plus money to hang against a free-swinging Rockies lineup. None of these Colorado hitters have seen Criswell before, and I think that works to our advantage with this Over.

Even though they hit Tanner Houck very well last night, the Rockies continue to be among the league leaders in Ks against righties. The Rox are also one of the highest strikeout teams in MLB over the last 30 days.

Criswell isn't a dominant pitcher by any means, but I like his sinker quite a bit and his changeup should keep this lineup off balance. Criswell's chase rate is also respectable (61st percentile). Let's play another Over!

Best Bet: White Sox First 5 (+100)

CWS at TEX - 8:05 PM EDT

I probably need my head examined for placing a bet on the worst team in baseball. However, I can't ignore the huge edge that the Chi-Sox have in the starting pitcher department. Tarik Skubal may win the AL Cy Young, but Garrett Crochet is the best pitcher in the league.

The young lefty's K-rate of 35.2% puts him in the 98th percentile and his chase rate and whiff rates are both off the charts. Crochet's 97 mph fastball looks more like 101 because of the insane amount of extension he gets. Scouts have griped about Crochet's lack of a secondary pitch, but his cutter can be nasty as well.

The Rangers offense has been disappointing this season. They seem to be coming around, but they still rank just 18th in WRC+ against southpaws. Texas also ranks just 20th in that category over their last 30 days. Give me the Pale Hose in the first 5 innings, because we dang sure can't trust their bullpen.
