There was a great article by Mike Breen in The Philadelphia Inquirer yesterday where J.T. Realmuto addressed the pitching/hitting disparity I’ve been ranting about all season. Interestingly, Realmuto did not put the blame on the ball – but on pitchers doctoring the ball now more than ever. Now, this is not new news – but to hear one of the top catchers in MLB talk about it like this was surprising. The article goes on to talk about the mound changes they are experimenting with, but it was the illegal doctoring that caught my eye. I’m hoping there will be enough of an outcry for MLB to do something – anything!
You know it’s bad when even Don Mattingly talks about the games becoming boring.
Well, until MLB does something, we will have more and more K’s to pick!
Red Sox @ Phillies, 7:05 pm ET
The Phillies have Aaron Nola, their only true ace, on the mound tonight. He has yet to hit 10K in multiple games this season and he’s not going to do it against these Red Sox tonight. I’m a fan of Nola but don’t like this matchup. I’m thinking ~6-7 strikeouts max, so with the line at 7.5 I’ll take the under and the -122 at FanDuel.
Rays @ Blue Jays, 7:37 pm ET
The Rays’ Tyler Glasnow has been a K machine this season, hitting double digits in 5 of his 9 starts this year. Side note, with Willy Adames headed to the Brewers, I’m hoping we finally get to see Wander Franco get his ticket to the bigs soon. Back to Glasnow – with such great numbers, why is BetMGM offering a 7.5 line? Don’t know, don’t care – I’m taking the over 7.5 at -149.
Dodgers @ Giants, 9:45 pm ET
You don’t think I’d let a Trevor Bauer night go unpicked didja? When he’s pitching for the Dodgers I try not to miss it. He’s currently at 57.1 innings pitched and 77 strikeouts. *chefs kiss* He’s hit 10 K his last two outings and I think he’ll hit that again tonight – so when I see BetMGM offering +120 on over 7.5 I jump at it. Do not pass go, but hopefully collect $200.
Come back again Sunday — same bat-channel — Batman out!
