The Skinny:
Let me start by saying I don’t love this pick. The Marlins have burned me this year before and I don’t forget that. But the Nationals are 5-1 in their last six road games and 6-1 in their last seven games vs. a team with a winning percentage below .400, so you do the math. Also, the Marlins are 2-10 in their last 12 home games and 1-6 in their last seven vs. a team with a losing record. . . . Let’s do it one last time, for old times sake. Aaron Nola is exactly who the Phils want on the mound to complete a sweep, and that’s just what they’ll have Thursday afternoon. Plus, the Mets are 1-4 in Zack Wheeler’s last five road starts vs. a team with a winning record. . . . Betting against Walker Buehler really isn’t a smart thing to do. But Colorado is different at home and the Dodgers are 1-4 in their last five road games. Combine that with the fact that the Rockies are 5-0 in their last five home games vs. a team with a winning road record and you have a nice little fade on your hands. . . . The Twins are 4-0 in their last four games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15, which is exactly what Ryne Stanek boasts this year. Yet, the Rays are 1-4 in Stanek’s last five Thursday starts and are 1-4 in their last five after allowing five runs or more in their previous game. Gimme the Twins.
