Baseball Overview - Mims on Who’s Hot, Who’s Not

Robert Mims

Let’s talk some baseball.

If you love betting on America’s pastime you must follow the trends. In my opinion you should look at a sample size of recent events and buy in before that window of opportunity closes. The New York Yankees are my example here. At the time of this post they have won eight of their last 10. They are getting healthy with the addition of Aaron Judge to the lineup.

Two other hot teams are the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves. Los Angeles is also 8-2 in the last 10. Atlanta has won 7 of their last 10. So, imagine if you did a two-team round-robin with these three teams over the past week. You are cashing tickets and not trashing them. Lean toward the Dodgers at home if the single game money line is your twist. LA is 32-9 so far this season at Chavez Ravine.

Three teams that are spiraling down are the Houston Astros, Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies. Baltimore and Philadelphia have lost nine of their last 10 games. The Astros just snapped a seven-game losing streak. The Phillies’ woes coincide with the loss of Andrew McCutchen for the season due to a torn ACL in his knee. I am sure no one envisioned Bryce Harper leading off when he was signed to the highest contract in MLB history. Gabe Kapler needs to rethink that move. I understand wanting to get Harper more at bats. There must be another way to jumpstart the offense.

I will share one baseball betting strategy. When looking at matchups, tend to avoid when two bad or good teams are playing each other. It really equates to a toss-up unless one starting pitcher is head and shoulders above the other. You can find more value when the team that hot is playing the team that’s not.
