Friday’s Race Recap from Aqueduct:
(All odds US)
Aqueduct:
Race 2: 2nd@ 1.25/1
Race 3: 7th@ 33.00/1
Race 8: 3rd@ 14.80/1
In Race 2, Aggregation led from the start but was run down by stablemate Dr. Ardito in the shadow of the wire. In Race 3, Go Grad wasn’t sent from his rail post despite adding blinkers and demonstrating a propensity for early gas and instead he stalked and faded. In Race 8, Harlan’s Bond chased inside and ran on late while not threatening the winner.
We’ve hit our penultimate race card and we’ll shoot at Gulfstream with fast conditions expected. I won’t handicap the turf races because I know they rained off yesterday.
Gulfstream:
Race 1: Princetown - 2 pts win (US Morning Line Odds: 12/1)
Maiden two-year-olds go seven furlongs and we’ve got a group of blue-bloods in here with price tags of $725K, $700K, $400K and $300K among the debuting contenders. I’m siding with the debuting Princetown, who was purchased for a comparatively paltry $220K. This two-year-old son of Speightstown is a half to stakes winner Mariah’s Princess and is reportedly tearing up the track in the AM. Most recently he and maiden winner Arthur’s Ride outworked stakes winner Candy Man Rocket. If we get anything close to the 12/1 morning line - look out!
Race 5: Dreaming of Snow - 2 pts win (US Morning Line Odds: 30/1)
The one mile Rampart is our first stakes race of the afternoon and pits six three- and four-year-old fillies against one another. Our 8/5 morning line favorite is Maryquitecontrary – winner of 6 of 11 but a loser of her last four starts and she now moves to the barn of a trainer who hasn’t hit the board with 9 starters for the meet. Our 9/5 second choice is Nostalgic, but she’s a late-running plodder who can easily fall victim to a loose leader. I’m giving an upset chance to Dreaming of Snow - the 38/1 upset winner of the Suncoast last year defeating Breeders’ Cup Champion Wonder Wheel and graded stakes winner Julia Shining in the process. She gets a positive rider change to Javier Castellano today and is coming off a fast-paced win at Tampa with a bullet workout. Wire to wire at a BIG price.
Race 10: Dubyuhnell - 2 pts win (US Morning Line Odds: 8/1)
The Grade 3 Harlan’s Holiday at a mile and a sixteenth is our feature race of the day on dirt and features an evenly matched group of Grade 3 runners. Most will flock to the Todd Pletcher runners or the up and coming Signator, but I’m siding with the somewhat forgotten Dubyuhnell for the Danny Gargan barn. It was just over a year ago when this guy won the Grade 2 Remsen and stamped himself a serious Kentucky Derby contender. Well, that didn’t quite work out and I was all set to consider him a has-been when he returned from an April layoff with a serious return effort defeating next-out winner Denington in a sparkling effort at Keeneland. He’s got the speed to be near the early pace and he’s proven he likes two turns. He’s been working well and is likely to get forgotten about here.
Best of luck to all our members playing Saturday’s races from Aqueduct!
