It's been a bit since I've written. I have managed to get a trip in ziplining at Gunstock Mountain in New Hampshire. If you haven't done this, I highly recommended it - especially there. It’s such a beautiful place. Tomorrow I’m off to Arlington, a trip to Del Mar next month and in August, it’s the annual pilgrimage to the Travers. Whoa is me.
Two maiden races today. With all the heat on the east coast and the rain down in South Florida, there are going to be several scratches, so the choices are one from Canterbury and one from Penn National.
Canterbury Park Race 5 - $30K Maiden Special Weight
3yo’s↑ going five furlongs on turf
Coming into this race there are going to be two heavily favored which will be bet down, and they are #1 Amanofmystature (7/2) and #4 Twirling Roses (5/2). Both are very good choices.
My choice is the above Group 2 tested #6 Coal Town Road (4/1) who debuted at Oaklawn on April 30 and frankly threw in a dog. He was shipped to Canterbury in early June and on June 23 he worked a blistering :58.3 from the gate. This son of Flat Out, a $3.5M winner, is ready to roll today and I am driving out to Canterbury just to bet him…. if you're not from this area, this is one obnoxious drive.
Penn National Race 5 - $31.6 Maiden Special Weight
Pa. Breds 3yo’s↑ going one mile
This race is going to come down to three horses. #5 Shady’s Keeper (5/2) #4 Swift City (7/2) on the stretch out, and # 2 Get Down Brown (2/1). By process of elimination I don't think the #4 horse will get the distance. I think the #2 horse has done better on turf and didn't fare well against horses of this caliber, which leaves the choice: #5 Shady’s Keeper (5/2)
Happy Hunting 😊
