All races are at Churchill Downs, and all are handicapped for fast and firm. Let's go.
Race 3 is a 6 1/2 furlong dirt optional claimer for older horses. 6-Gentrified has an edge on the speed figs, and as a late runner, will get the pace he needs to run at. We'll bet him to win at 5/2.
The bet: Churchill Downs, Race 3: $30 to win on 6-Gentrified.
Race 4 is a $30,000 maiden claimer for fillies and mares 3 and up at 6 furlongs on dirt. The pick here is one that will make our colleague Boop's heart sing: it's 3-Bling Springsteen. This 3-year-old gray daughter of Jersey Town (really!) did a speed-and-fade in a $40k maiden claimer at Keeneland; she should improve second out, and slight drop in class will help. We'll bet her to win at 7/2.
The bet: Churchill Downs, Race 4, $25 to win on 3-Bling Springsteen. We'll see if she is (har!) born to run!
Race 6 is a high-class Maiden Special at 6 furlongs on the dirt for fillies and mares 3 and up. There are some impressively-bred runners in here, but we like a first-time starter, 4-Mt. Brave. This Steve Asmussen trainee has posted a series of scorching morning workouts leading up to this race, and as a daughter of Malibu Moon, she should have the speed she'll need to win this. Asumussen wins at a good 23% clip with firsters, so this girl is a go. We'll bet her to win.
The bet: Churchill Downs, Race 6, $30 to win on 4-Mt. Brave.
The 7th at Churchill is a second-level allowance for older horses at 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt. We like 3-Mr Ashley here: this 4-year-old Adolpho Macias trainee is in good form, and possesses an edge in early speed on the rest of the field. We think he goes right to the front and stays there all the way. We will bet him to win at 4-1.
The bet: Churchill Downs, Race 7, $25 to win on 3-Mr Ashley.
That's all for today. Good luck at the windows.
