Thoroughbreds Tuesday: McMudder is at Parx

Hurry to catch the 4th and 5th races

Mick McMudder

Long layoffs for specialist barns. What do I mean? Patrick Neusch, a very good horseman that trains on his farm in Virginia sent an 11 year old that had not raced since 2018 to run in a turf sprint at Delaware on Monday. The horse was completely ignored by the betting public but got two things in his favor. First, he got a fairly small field due to the geometry of the turf course and he got Ricky Chiappe in the saddle, a very good turf rider. And he won paying in excess of $70. Three things to keep in mind: Patrick Neusch could have run this gelding at Charles Town numerous times but waited on turf at Delaware. The horse is 11, he probably is not able to run as often as he could earlier in his career. And training on a farm, the horse had the opportunity to train on turf, something the race trackers don’t get. So now that it is turf season, watch out for the farm horses, they may be more ready than you realize.

Picks for May 28, 2019:

Hotter with possible thunderstorms. Hope the rain waits.

Parx Race 4
11-Credo
changes barns after getting dropped in his last race to extend his streak of placings without a victory. His last two victories have come on an off track, too. But his last two races were encouraging and he remains at the bottom here. The Demasi barn is strong off the claim and jockey Mychel Sanchez stays on board. 10-Triumphant Joy keeps climbing the ladder after success last out. Another one that would like to see the rain come early. 8-To the Victor is not far removed from good form and trainer Don White is 50% second off the claim.
$10 W/P/S 11-Credo
$2 Exacta box 8,11
$1 Trifecta box 8,10,11

Parx Race 8
10-Deal Driven should reward his connections again for being eligible for this condition. That eligibility should be ending soon…two years is a long time. Until then, this guy will continue to make $$$$. Trainer Mike Pino is obviously fond of 9-Pumpkin Star since this will be his third return visit in 6 months…and each with a different owner. Pino has convinced the new owners to pay more each time, too. His confidence must be high. 3-Adventist gets some class relief from his recent good efforts. He will be running late to pick up the pieces.
$10 W/P/S 10-Deal Driven
$2 Exacta box 9,10
$1 Trifecta box 3,9,10

Parx Race 5: 4-Lucky Clemen seems to have 9-Southern Kisses number so look for that order in this race. On their good days, both are good enough.
