Good News of the Day:
The attorney for the five year old boy who was thrown over the third floor balcony at The Mall of America, gave a press release stating he was “showing real signs of life.’ Hopefully that special someone moved this little boys’ stone.
Taking the Brewers + Sunday under the auspices that the Dodgers will be homesick for Easter and made the 90 minute drive to Rush Street last night and got hammered.
Hope all news is good for you, Jockey Abel Cedillo.
As Egyptian Pioneer dug in and crossed the finish line first last night at Penn National, I started howling like a raving madman knowing I had hit the pick 6…….and then they flashed the payoff - $49.20. Gulp.
Going north to Canada today, hope everything turns ewwwwttt.
Woodbine, Toronto, Ontario
Rain and 54̊
Picked the 3 highest purses on the card
Race 3
$67.5K Allowance for F&M 3yo+ NW2 going 5.5f
The Skinny:
1 – Modus Operandi (10/1) three of the five starters in this race are Woodbine townies and have been taking it easy in the beauty of Canadas’ winter, while, more than likely, spawning the next gen. On the 20th of March, trainer Ross Armata woke this mare out of hibernation and started her steady regimen of workouts leading up to today. MO has put up brisk works, including an April 2nd bullet signaling her readiness. Modus should dust this group and her $186K in earnings at WO prove it (next in line has $48K).
4 – Goldtown (8/1) if Modus doesn’t get it done, this mare will. Goldtown has the next best speed numbers and her workouts have been solid
Woodbine Race 3 Bets
1 - $20/w $40p
$5 Exacta Box 1-4
Race 5
$65K MSW for 3yo going 5f
3 – Powell (3/5) a one-horse race. Eons ago, a buddy of my father was boasting that Secretariat would lose to Sham in the Belmont. They bet a drink for every length the winner won by. As soon as Chick Andersone -- belted out, “he’s moving like a tremendous machine,” the guy leaves. We all looked at each other and collectively asked…”sore loser?” Returning about 20 minutes later, he walked in with a bottle of Crown Royal and stated, “let’s have a drink to this momentous occasion.” Big Rich, while grabbing the bottle and going to the den, muttered something on the order of, “dam right, but not with this good stuff,” and served the guy some well booze -- cheap Old Joe or some rotgut like that.
The moral? Don’t be surprised if, by comparison to class, Powell “moves like a tremendous machine” against these rivals.
Woodbine Race 5 Bets
3 – Pot. All In.
Race 6
$100K Star Shoot Stakes 3yo Fillies going 6f
The Skinny
4 – My Gal Betty (7/2) watching her, and losing my money, during the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf, I was reminded of how much easier it is for a turf runner to fare well on synthetic. However, the opposite is not true. After that loss, Betty was given a respite, then entered in a G3 stakes on turf where she chased the early leader and faltered. Today, Betty is facing, sans the two others mentioned, easier competition and will be glad to be back on her home turf.
1 – Speedy Soul (10/1) going for a little home ju ju here as this is 2-2 lifetime and both at Woodbine. Last out, Speedy stalked the pace and burned it in the stretch to win going away. First out for Mark Casse (33%, 2.93 roi), she had a recent gate work of :49 making Speedy Soul a tough nut to crack today. 2:2-0-0 for $101,897 at Woodbine
6 – Si Si Tequila (8/1) hopefully the chant of the Dodgers last night, this Stuart Simon trained filly is going to set the pace and maybe wire the field.
Woodbine Race 6 Bets
1 - $25/win $50/p
$5 Exacta Box 4-1-2
