Harness Racing: Picks for the George M Levy Series at Yonkers plus mid-card races at the Meadlowlands

Mitchell picks Saturday night at Yonkers and the Big M

Alan Mitchell

Yonkers Raceway – Saturday – April 6, 2019
First Post time: 6:50 P.M.
Four Divisions of the George M Levy Free-For-All pacing series highlights the Saturday card at Yonkers.

Yonkers Race 5
First Division of the Levy.
JJ Flynn (4)
Burned big bets in last while finishing second. He was a $.25 loser. Will make amends tonight. Endeavor (3) Nice win 2 ago from the rail. Quit badly on lead in last. Which one shows up tonight? Pacing Major (2) pulled huge upset in last. Can remain tough from here. Major Crocker A (5) last was slightly better. From Alllard stable. Must consider in exoric bets.

Selections: 4, 3, 2, 5

Yonkers Race 7
Control Tower (2)
Strictly a longshot stab in this wide open battle. This one can sit behind the rail horse and find a perfect trip. Anythingforlove A (1) Can lead from here for a long way. Has to be considered in bets. More The Better N (6) had perfect 2 post win at 2-1. Would need some early luck from here. I’m Some Graduate (4) Burke trainee closed with a rush in last to finish second. Will be closing late.
Selections: 2, 1, 6, 4

Yonkers Race 8
The Wall (5)
Had late pace on a fast last quarter. Can beat these on very best. Lyons Steel (6) Made BIG move in speedy 10-1 win in last. Factor if repeats that effort. Ideal Jimmy (8) Had his fun from the inside posts a few starts back. 8 post at Yonkers is the great equalizer. Would like from inside post. Mar Nien A (2) Not close yet in the Levy. Still, he is highly touted and could land a minor share vs these.
Selections: 5, 6, 8, 2

Yonkers Race 10
Western Fame (3)
Could be the best horse in the series based on his strong, open length win in last. Will repeat from this spot. Somewhere In LA (2) Toss out last. Insider post is obvious lift. Gokudo Hanover (1) Another who must be considered based on the inside post. Races well from this post. Dr J Hanover (6) Would like better if he was inside of the top 3 selections. Still, he can land in Trifecta or Superfecta.
Selections: 3, 2, 1, 6

Meadowlands – Saturday, April 6, 2019
First Post time: 7:15 P.M.

Meadowlands Race 4
Blacklight (5) Makes 3 year old debut. Gained valuable racing experience as a 2 year old last year. Tough at this level. Can’t Be Better (3) Empty in seasonal debut. I am guessing he improves noticeably tonight. Stroman (9) Been off for a few weeks since a Canadian win. Won his qualifier but the poor post is a factor here. Vodka On The Beach (4) Failed to make a move in last as 4 – 5 favorite. Took that bet off the 2 previous races that were sharp. Must use in Trifecta and Superfecta.
Selections: 5, 3, 9, 4

Meadowlands Race 6
Penzance Hanover (1)
Raced evenly vs the ‘Opens’ at Dover. Draws the rail tonight and might pull a mild upset. Castle Flight (4) Fired away in last – then got shuffled way back. Better than that race looked. Winning Linc (3) returns to upset level and has Dave Miller driving. Use in exotic bets. Stonedust (5) showed some late pace in last, in fast race. Fits this field like a glove.
Selections: 1, 4, 3, 5

Meadowlands Race 7
Dubious Claim (2)
Takes a drop in class off dull races. The drop in class means he should improve. Still, it would be an upset. Arque Hanover (3) Belated rally in last as chalk, finished 3rd. Tough if you believe last race. Whittaker N (5) Another who I thought was better than he actually is. Chance to improve vs these. Solo Story (6) Buried and shuffled from rail. Might hit board or get into superfecta as a longshot.
Selections: 2, 3, 5, 6
