Fifty-five summers ago, America—more to the point, American youth—was experiencing an unprecedented entertainment phenomenon that transcended show business and reached into social and cultural precincts.
It was called “The British Invasion” and it had been detonated earlier in 1964 by The Beatles. It wasn’t just a new sound the young men who were the invasion’s shock troops brought to these shores, but a new way to think, dress and engage with the world at large.
On June 15, Golden Nugget Atlantic City is remembering that epochal year by staging its second annual British Invasion Festival, a daylong, free bash at the Deck Bayfront Bar & featuring three bands saluting The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who.
The sounds begin at 2 p.m. with a set by Britain’s Finest, an acclaimed Beatles recreation act. They will encore at 7:10 p.m. At 3:30 and 8:40 p.m., The Glimmer Twins will perform the Stones’ greatest hits, with Who's Next set for 5 and 10:10 p.m.
